New Shorter Meeting URLs in Microsoft Teams

Microsoft is making a move to simplify the way we share meeting links in Teams. With this update, Microsoft Teams meeting URLs will be shorter, making it easier to share and remember meeting links. Not only will this improve usability, but it also enhances security.

This change will be rolled out across all Microsoft Teams platforms:

 🔗Teams for Windows

 🔗Teams for Mac

 🔗Teams for iOS

 🔗Teams for Android

 🔗Teams Devices

 🔗Teams Web

When will this happen?

🔗Targeted Release: Mid to late February 2025

🔗General Availability (Worldwide, GCC): Mid to late April 2025

How will this affect your organization?

This update brings a smoother experience when creating and sharing meeting links. With shorter URLs, sharing invites becomes faster, and there’s less chance for error when copying and pasting links. Plus, these streamlined links will help strengthen your organization’s security posture by making it more difficult for bad actors to guess meeting URLs.

Stay tuned for more updates as the rollout progresses. This change is one of many improvements designed to enhance your Microsoft Teams experience.

what you need to do prepare:

You may want to check if you have any integrations that use parameters from the URL. After the rollout, the URL will only contain the meeting ID. Parameters such as tenant ID, organizer ID, conversation ID and message ID will not be in the URL.

You may inform meeting organizers from your tenant who use expired meeting links, or you may want to make a tenant-wide announcement about this change.

This rollout will happen automatically by the specified date with no admin action required. You may want to notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation as appropriate.
